Doors of the British Building ( NOT LEE LAWRIE)

This work that I had originally assumed, icorrectly as being the work of Lee Lawrie, is actually the work of Cal Paul Jennewein. A clipping in one of Lee Lawrie's scrapbooks at the Library of Congress.

According to the article, the figures represent the "nine industries which are [were in 1937] of importance to the economic structure of the British Empire."

The figures represent the industries of "fishing, shipping, coal mining, salt mining, tobacco products, sugar production, wool herding, wheat growing and cotton raising," according to the article mentioned above.
