The Declaration of Independence (1776), by Lee Lawrie, South Facade

Pierced Stone Panel by Lee Lawrie. South Facade. The second of three documents critical to the founding of America. July 4, 1776.

The Second Continental Congress declaring independence from the tyranny of English King George IV. Among the signatories, we see Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Sherman and R.R. Livingston.

The panel displays 13 men, and while more signed the Declaration, they are symbolic of the 13 colonies that became the United States of America.

They told King George that they were fed up with his tyranny and proceeded to list a series of grievances against him.
