Athena appears as a War Goddess, with a spear and a shield with an owl on it. She stands behind Orestes, son of Agamemnon.
Agamemnon was murdered by his wife, and Orestes, killed her. |

He stands in judgmened before the Council of Areopagus, the crime of matricide. He was acquitted of the crime. Until this time, blood vengeance took the place of civil justice. This would pave the way for juries that would follow centuries later.
