Over this entrance are carved words of caution to all that live in a democracy: words have never been more timely than they are now in the 21st Century. When citizens ignore their government, or delegate it to the untrustworthy, corruption takes root.

Native American-Themed Bronze Screen at North Entrance

Immdiately below the Pioneer Panel is the Bronze Screen Entrance Doors, paying homage to the the Native Americans.

Hartley Burr Alexander, the thematic consultant for the Nebraska State Capitol Building, wanted future Nebraskans and all who visit the building to rembmer that, this was the land of the Native Americans, who roamed the prairies for thousands of years.

The Bronze Screen Doors pictured here depict braves hunting.

Their prey may be the buffalo, or the anetlope.

On the following screens, you will see the detail come to life, the game, the hunters, the arrows all fused in the design.

The door represents a highly stylized version of these images. Lawrie used Native American themse prominently in works in other cities such as those found at Wichita and Argo, Illinois.

Tragically, the works in Wichta were destroyed or covered over during remodling in the 1960s.

Bronze Doors that depict the life of those who went before us here.
